Lady Drillers and Garces Rams claim first SYC Basketball Championship

There was quite a contrast in the way the two title games of the first ever South Yosemite Conference Basketball Championships played out on Thursday night at North High.

The girls game was a blowout decided in the first few minutes after the opening tip, while the boys game went down to the wire with the result finally determined in overtime.

SYC leagues compete for basketball championship

“At the end of the year there’s always conversations about which team is best, and this league champ versus this league champ, who is better?” North High boys coach A.J. Shearon said. “A lot of time you see those teams early in the year. But this give us the opportunity now to see each other at the end of the year, to really kind of get that last run before playoffs, not just bragging rights but to challenge yourself. I think it will be good for our fans and our community to get out and see some of these teams now that we’re hopefully playing our best basketball of the year.

Tooker's three touchdowns propel Liberty to playoff victory over Clovis West

With starting quarterback and leading touchdown producer Haden Mann out due to injury, the Liberty High football team went into its Central Section Division 1 quarterfinal against Clovis West looking for ways to score points.
As it turned out, Patriots senior Dylan Tooker had the perfect the solution, tallying touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams to lead third-seeded Liberty to a 38-14 victory over the visiting Golden Eagles on Friday night.
